It's All Over Now, Baby Blue

First off, the sound on this one is fantastic. HS (Jubal to those in the know) created yet another perfectly balanced matrix. The vocals have that SBD clarity while Phil's bass has the rumbling thunder you get with a good AUD.

Now, the show. OK, I think it fair to say the many of us can point to 84 as the time that Jerry really started to show signs of wear and tear. In physical appearance and vocal strength he was having some issues. But he still managed to produce some fine performances during this time of personal decay. Many shows from the time on one could say Jerry just wasn't there, his heart wasn't in it and his mind was making promises his body couldn't keep. Well, this night Jerry showed up in full force. His fingers are a blur of musical ferocity and his voice, while raspy to be sure, is full of power and emotion.

In the first set he absolutely destroys the Deal. Normally a tune I am rather indifferent about, this one is a WMD (weapon of musical destruction) of epic proportions. Crank it to 11, clear any breakable items from the immediate vicinity of the subwoofer and enjoy the ride. Not only is Jerry on, but Phil is as well. Rumbling along just underneath, occasionally popping up to drop bombs like a wack-a-mole with a hand grenade. The second set continues the assault with a tremendous Scarlet, very tasty Fire, extra powerful Estimated, an absolutely chair-blasting Eyes and a Dew that provides the extra sweet cherry on top.

It may not be Friday yet, but playing this show just might get your employers to let you out early...before you start laying into the company property.

well slap my ass and call me suzy. This is one of the 84s
that I never listen to? Shame, shame on me.
Thanks again SDH for showing me the light in strangest of places if I look at it right. (Might have opened up myself
to some nasty comments there...Dammit, did it again
there again too).
Oh well, good thing Im used to 'opening up' for nasty things
anyways.

This is what I imagine your traffic was like during Deal:
You are the only one who made it through.( pix ~ 2 O'clock )
Im the jealous one in the bulldozer going the wrong way...

Cant wait to get home and BLAST set two. That reminds me,
I really should get my neighbors some noise cancelling
earphones, coasters, and a pardon from the attorny general for Xmas.

Looks like the police helicopter got a picture of the "event".

Outstanding.

'Weapon of Musical Destruction' - like it. For me it's 'Where's My Drink'.

Two great shows in the spring of '84. I really enjoyed these shows at the time. The 4/27 show had China Doll into High Time, what other "rock band" could do that? These shows would make a nice '84 release.

Providence was a fun venue that seemed to produce some great shows.

A drummer I jam with was born on 4/27/84...damn whipper-snapper. His Mom took him to a show in '94, now he jams Dead with me and I'm as old as his Dad.
